Attractions and Activities

The Chinese Temple
This Chinese style temple is found on the North-West of Koh Phangan island and it has a short but interesting history. A women named Khun Malawan visited the island in the the early nineties and in her dream she experienced a revelation. The dream was the influence for a fund that in 1992 resulted in the temple.

Wat Phu Khao Noi
Wat Phu Khao Noi is the oldest temple on Koh Phangan. The name means "The temple of the small mountain" and this is a pretty good description about how/where the temple is located. You will find this small mountain on the South-West of Koh Phangan, not so far from Thongsala (the main town of the island). If you want to meet a monk, we would recommend you to visit the temple in the early hours of the day.

Phaeng Waterfall
One of the largest waterfall on Phangan is Phaeng and you can get there by walking on the steep mountain path. The waterfall is of course more visually attractive after rainy weather.

Thaan Sadet Waterfall
This waterfall is found on the East side of Koh Phangan, but it can be a little hard to reach it because of the terrain. Several kings has visited the waterfall and engraved their signatures in the cliff. The cool water of Thaan Sadets is very suitable for a swim during the hot months in Thailand. Please notice that the dirt road that leads here are rather rough so it can be wise to hire a experienced driver rather than to go by yourself on a motorbike.

Laem Son Sea
This beautiful sea is found in the North-West of Koh Phangan. The water is cool enough to attract many tourists. A few wooden swings and ropes is hanging from trees. Be careful when swinging and playing though. If you get injured, it might take a long time before you get any professional help.

Khao Ra
The tallest mountain on the island reaches 630 meters above the sea level. Several small paths makes it possible to reach the top by walking. We recommend you to take the chance to visit the Phaeng Waterfall at your way up. Parts of the path is rather rough due to the terrain.

Activities

Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
A relatively good visibility and extensive coral reefs has created good surroundings for diving around Koh Phangan. A little North of the island, you will find Sail Rock, famous for giving home to both whale sharks and barracudas. If you want to obtain an international diving certificate (PADI etc.), there are many schools and instructors with a genuine knowledge and experience.

Trekking
Koh Phangan's almost unexploited inland is great for daily trekking tours. Small mountain roads brings you up to the island's highlands. To reach the highest top, we recommend you the hiking trail starting at Baan Madeuawaan. The final destination is called Khao Raa, 627 meters above the sea. Hikes with a local guide can be arranged.

Thai Boxing, Yoga and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu
The Horizon Muay Thai Boxing Camp is reachable by boat and this boxing camp is located relatively close to Haad Rin on the South part of the island. Horizon offer Thai Boxing training but also cooking classes as well as massage courses.

Well-established Jungle Gym offers everything from single training sessions, to monthly courses for the one who is staying a longer time. Here you will be able to participate in traditional Muay Thai training or/and BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) classes. The gym also offer fitness classes, gym equipment including barbells, yoga classes and also a juice bar. The Jungle Gym is both found in Haad Rin and in Thongsala, where you also will find the largest Thai Boxing arena.

To Rent a Motorbike
It is a nice but also a little risky way to explore the island. The traffic is not that intense, but the roads on the steep hillsides is often not that good. Anyhow, many choose to rent a bike due to the feeling of freedom and the affordable price. The price for renting a motorbike starts from about 150-200 baht per day.
